In the first four months of 2024, the sales of e-commerce in the United States reached 331.6 billion US dollars.

Research firm Adobe has released data on U.S. online shopping in the first four months of 2024, showing a year-on-year increase of 7.0% in sales, reaching $331.6 billion. Consumers have shifted their purchases in major e-commerce categories to cheaper items, including personal care, electronics, clothing, furniture and groceries.

Adobe's Analytics platform analyzed over 1 trillion visits to American retail websites, 100 million SKUs, and 18 product categories, covering more than 85% of the top 100 online retailers in the United States.

Adobe reports that during the period from January 1 to April 30, 2024, online shopping sales in the United States grew by 7%. This was attributed to stable spending on non-essential categories such as electronics and clothing, as well as the continuous surge in online grocery shopping. It is expected that in the first half of 2024, online spending will reach over 500 billion US dollars, an increase of 6.8% compared to the same period last year.

In the first four months of 2024, consumers spent $61.8 billion on electronic products online (an increase of 3.1% year-on-year), and $52.5 billion on clothing (a 2.6% increase year-on-year). Although there was a slight increase compared to the previous year, both of these categories accounted for 34.5% of the total e-commerce spending and helped maintain revenue growth. Grocery items further supported this data, driving online sales to $38.8 billion, a significant year-on-year growth of 15.7%.

Another online growth category is cosmetics. In 2023, this category drove online spending of 35 billion US dollars, an increase of 15.6% compared to the same period last year. This upward trend is still ongoing. As of 2024, consumers' spending on purchasing cosmetics online reached 13.2 billion US dollars, an annual increase of 8%.
